BASES Student Conference 2021

As with everything else within the last 13 months, this year’s BASES Student Conference was an online event. Usually, a university will host the two-day event, with keynote speakers from a variety of sport science disciplines, alongside BASES student members presenting their work. In my three years as an undergraduate sport science student, I have never been able to attend the event before, so the convenient nature of the online conference was a huge plus for me this year. Also, it was completely free of charge! There were so many interesting speakers over the two days, some of whom were not from a research background but instead chose to talk about their personal journey or their career setbacks. I also listened to some great poster presentations by student members, and it was really interesting to hear what research is currently relevant in this context as I am going into my final year this autumn and will be conducting a project of my own.

As much as I have hated not having much social interaction since the beginning of last year, opportunities like this which bring together people from across the country from the safety and comfort of their own homes are absolutely amazing. Saving me the cost of travel, accommodation and delegate fees at an important conference like this has been fantastic. Big thanks to Solent University for being the virtual hosts - more of these easy to access events please!
